Letter From Membership Vice President
Dear Potential New Member,
As you begin your college experience here at the University of Missouri- St. Louis, you will find that there are many opportunities for you to get involved on campus. I hope that you take the time to consider joining our Greek community here at UMSL. I can honestly say that becoming a sister of Alpha Xi Delta has been the best decision I have made in my time here at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. I never thought that Greek life was for me, and now I can’t imagine my life without it. I have made new best friends, become involved in community service, have academic support, and have become a part of a sisterhood that will last a lifetime.
Alpha Xi Delta inspires women to realize their potential by providing opportunities for Sisterhood, leadership, knowledge and service. Since its founding in 1893, we have grown into a strong organization consisting of more than 150,000 initiated members nationwide. Membership in Alpha Xi Delta means many things, including becoming a well-rounded student and becoming involved with other organizations on campus. While walking around campus you are sure to smile, knowing what amazing sisters you have here at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. The women of Alpha Xi Delta are each other’s families away from home, and these sisterly bonds signify real, life-long and genuine friendship.
Alpha Xi Delta is partnered with Autism Speaks as our national philanthropy. Our chapter holds two main philanthropy events each year to raise money for autism awareness. In the fall, we host a Trivia Night benefiting Autism Speaks. In the spring, we hold the AmaXing Challenge, Xi Marks the Spot. This exciting event is similar to a giant game of Cranium that is spread across the campus. Along with these events, sisters also show their support for Autism Speaks by participating in the Walk Now for Autism Speaks event each October and selling tickets for a St. Louis Blues game with the proceeds benefiting Autism Speaks. In just four years of partnership with Autism Speaks, Alpha Xi Delta nationwide has raised over one million dollars for the funding of research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism; supporting the needs of families affected by autism.
Along with philanthropic events, we also host several social events throughout the year. We host our own formal dance, mixers with the other Greek chapters on campus, and a Family Day to show our families what our sisterhood means to us. In the spring, we participate in Greek Week, an athletic competition among the fraternities and sororities on campus. These events allow us to make connections at UMSL and strengthen the bonds throughout the entire Greek community.
As a transfer student, my first few weeks of college were really tough because I didn’t know anyone, but once I made those connections with my sisters everything started to fall into place. After joining Alpha Xi Delta I began to realize my potential as a person and as a leader through the support of my sisters. I could not imagine my college experience without the truly amaXing and kind women I have been lucky enough to meet through Alpha Xi Delta.
Through the recruitment process, I hope that you are able to see what I see in Alpha Xi Delta: values, opportunities, and sisterhood. I hope you find a place where you see yourself happy, growing, and creating life-lasting friendships with the women you call your sisters. I hope that place is with the women of Alpha Xi Delta. I cannot wait to meet you, welcome to the University of Missouri- St. Louis and best wishes as you open a new chapter in your life.
